word of mouth...
CK, Mom to a 6 year-old
I want to thank you so much for treating my 6yo daughter, and want to share with others how you healed severe eczema that suddenly came on my daughter's skin.
My daughter first developed red, swollen quarter-sized eczema on her wrist out of nowhere. I thought it might go away but instead, it spread all over her body. Big scales, blood oozing out from the wrist, tiny red bumps all over her poor little body. She looked like a burn victim and the school sent her home and said she couldn't come back to school until it's been treated.
I took her to the dermatologists well regarded by the medical community, but they could not diagnose my daughter's condition and recommended that we use strong steroid-based cream to suppress the symptoms.
I have been skeptical about the effects and side-effects of steroids from the testimonies of my friends who have tried on their kids. They eventually became dependent on the steroid based creams or they did not work at all over time. I wanted to find a safe, natural way to heal my daughter.
Melanie did a little "tickle stick" trick (pediatric acupuncture) on my daughter. My daughter is normally deathly against needles, but she said she barely felt the needles. Melanie also prescribed herbal bath and little tea regimen for a week. She warned me that the condition might look worse at first.
I did the herbal bath on my daughter daily and my daughter's skin looked redder after the bath. But I kept her on the regimen and after a week, everything went away like magic. I had to take my daughter back to the dermatologists to get a doctor's note for the school to admit my daughter again, and the doctors were amazed that it went away.
Melanie explained to me that the herbs don't try to suppress the symptoms but to address the cause of the eczema. I am relieved that we don't have to find and rid of possible allergens, and my daughter can wear wool and other fabrics without fear.
I would like to recommend Melanie to all the city moms with kids who suffer from eczema!

"Melanie's caring and astute evaluation and recommendations have
made a significant impact on my daily busy life - including helping
me adjust to stressful conditions that were apparent in my physical
condition and emotional concerns. In particular, her herbal formulas
have profoundly strengthened my body and continue to support me
in making better choices with food and lifestyle. I have recommended
her to a variety of friends and hope that others will have the
opportunity to be introduced to this powerful medicine through
Melanie's expertise and treatment."
H.S., 29 y.o. female television producer:
"I’m terrified of needles, but I suffered from an auto-immune disease,
for which there was little that doctors practicing western medicine
could do. So, after a friend recommended Melanie, I figured it was
worth a try. And, the fact that I have continued to see her for 9
months speaks for itself. She's not only helped me with that problem,
but with several other chronic problems. I’d highly recommend her."
R.R., 34 y.o. female, yoga teacher:
"I have been visiting Melanie for 5 years. The work with
Melanie has allowed me to live an active and healthy life given my
condition of scoliosis. With Melanie's help I have been able to come
through periods of intense pain more quickly and happily than I had in the
past when I had to rely on muscle relaxants and periods of inactivity. Her
warmth and knowledge make every visit an experience that I look forward to."
L. H., 58 y.o. female:
• "Acupuncture offered me the undivided time and attention that one does not get in an average doctor's office.
• Attention was paid to me and my symptoms - I was treated as an individual as opposed to being generalized by the physician.
• I was being treated as a whole, instead of being treated for one or another symptom.
• As I do believe that thousand-year-old procedures would not have survived had they not been helpful, acupuncture offered me an alternative in addition to Western medicine.
• I felt comfortable with the fact that acupuncture treats without chemicals that might in themselves set off a new set of maladies.
• I felt a definite improvement after treatments. Case in point is that since I have been neglecting my acupuncture treatments, my symptoms have been returning.
• I wish insurances would be a lot more “user-friendly” when it comes to covering acupuncture – I believe they would save money on the long run. Instead of allowing a certain amount of visits per year, they should cover regular visits which would prove to be preventive not just curative.”
A. S., Professor of Microbiology and Immunology, 64 y.o. male, with Low Back Pain:
“From fall 2003 till February 2004 I was suffering from acute pain over the right iliac crest and numbness down my leg, due to a disc that had extruded just above my 42 year old spinal fusion. The disc was both posterior/anterior. I went for physical therapy, and 3 nerve blocks, none of which gave me sustaining relief. After evaluation by a Neurosurgeon, and an Orthopedic surgeon here in Syracuse about surgical options (though both urged me to persist in
finding alternatives), I finally visited (an acupuncturist) in fall-November 2004. Combined with osteopathic treatment at the same time, but most effectively with acupuncture, I eventually achieved striking relief... enough to start an exercise program to rebuild pelvic girdle muscles.
I'm surprised how well it worked, as is my Neurosurgeon."
S.C., 30 y.o. female actress, for Premenstrual Syndrome:
“After seeing countless doctors for my unbearable cramps during the first two days of my period, my only options seemed to be the pill (in which I do not believe) or a strong dose of ibuprofen. My cramps were so bad that I had been taking it in 800 mg doses but the prescribed amount of two a day was not enough. I had to take it at least four times a day to feel any relief. After less than 6 months of acupuncture I decreased my meds to half and now (after about a year) I need no meds at all.”
L.A., 36 y.o. female:
“I was diagnosed with MS approximately five years ago. I started taking Avonex as soon as I was diagnosed and even though this put my disease in a manageable position I was still unhappy with my medical condition. Because MS is an autoimmune disease I thought that keeping my body healthy and strong is how I can help treat the disease from my part besides from taking the medication. I regularly exercise, eat well, and take vitamins; therefore I decided to explore Chinese medicine because of their belief to use natural herbs to treat medical problems.
I have been taking the herbs now for approximately five months and I feel better every day and I have seen an improvement in my health and with some of my problems the medication did not address (or even made worse such as fatigue). My energy level and my physical strength have improved and today I almost feel like a healthy 36 year-old woman. I get up in the morning and look forward to the day. Many people do not know I have MS (because I do not have many visual symptoms) so it is very funny to hear colleagues and friends saying things like: “wow, you look great what have you been doing?” or “life must be treating you good you look great!” I have noticed that I more color back in my cheeks then I have had in years and I smile more than I have in years.
I began acupuncture a few weeks ago, I hesitated only because of the fear of needles but I read so many articles (some from the MS Society) how acupuncture has helped people with so many medical problems I decided to give it a shot. So far so good! Just last week I was having a problem with my right eye (optic neuritis) so when I went to my regular acupuncture visit and I told Melanie of my problem and the next day I woke up and the pain was gone. I would not believe it if it did not happen to me.
I highly recommend Chinese medicine to people not only with MS but other diseases. I think that only looking at one avenue for treatment of a disease can limit persons from improving their health to the fullest."
D.N., 29 y.o. female, student:
"Melanie is a skilled acupuncturist with the caring and compassion that is often lost in any kind of healthcare treatment. I came to her with specific problem of muscle twitches throughout my body. Melanie put me at ease, treated the problem and I am now free of my problem. Since starting acupuncture, I have never felt better! Melanie is amazing at what she does and one of the most genuine people I have ever met."
